Frequently asked questions
- How much is the EIS contribution?
- Roughly 0.2% from the employee and 0.2% from the employer, applied through a gazetted wage-band table capped at RM6,000 of monthly wages. At the top band each side pays RM11.90 a month.
- Who is exempt from EIS?
- Foreign workers are not covered by EIS. Contributions also stop at age 60, and an employee first covered at 57 or older with no earlier EIS contribution is exempt.
- Is EIS charged on a bonus?
- No. As with SOCSO, bonuses are excluded from wages for EIS, so the contribution is based on the regular monthly salary.
- What does EIS pay for?
- EIS provides job-search allowances, reduced-income allowances and training support to insured employees who lose their job. It is a separate scheme from SOCSO, under Act 800.
